Daniela Stöppel's PhD thesis "Visual Sign Systems of the Avantgarde between 1910 and 1950" is a thorough research into the origins of pictorial systems in their utilitarian and political use. Much of the content is drawn from revolutionary Russia and parallel egalitarian movements across Europe. We therefore designed the book in a clear structure with images appearing where they are mentioned in the text. The edges of the book have been coloured in red, so when looking at it as an object it appears as a 'red brick'.
